Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos will always be their children’s biggest supporters.

In the Friday episode of Live with Kelly and RyanThe mother-of-three, 52, spoke about the difficulties of “growing up” when her children join the workforce and shared that her eldest son Michael, 25, has been struggling with his post-college job.

“Growing up is hard these days. It is very difficult for children. Job opportunities aren’t what they used to be. The economy is driving this trend,” said Repa. “I know Michael graduated from college in May 2020 and he had a writing job lined up that flew away because the pandemic shut down production and just never came back.”

“So, you know, we gave him an extra year of grace to find other job opportunities because it’s difficult,” she said of her and her husband, Mark Consuelos.

In addition to Michael, Ripa and Consuelos are also parents to son Joaquin (19) and daughter Lola (21).

Ripa went on to explain why she feels it’s “a unique time to have kids in college right now.”

“I told them these are years you won’t get back and this is a time when we don’t mind supporting you financially as long as you work – as long as you keep a job for your add-ons I call them.” ‘ she shared.

“The frills; the stuff they want — as long as you work for it, we’ll cover the basic costs, but once you graduate, that’s over,” she continued. “Because we were married at 25, you know what I mean? And we feel like because we didn’t have safety nets, we got things cooking.”

Michael had a huge hit earlier this month – he made it into PEOPLE’s 2022 issue ‘Sexiest Man Alive’!

The 25-year-old appeared in a portfolio of famous sons, where he joked that his father, 51, always wants him and brother Joaquin to “look like him”.

“I got new glasses and then my father texts me: ‘Where did you get these glasses?’ “, Michael recalled. “And I’m like, ‘Oh no, can you at least pick another color?’ My dad, my brother and I will be wearing the same black pants and gray shirt and I think I’ll try to look a little bit different. I like to stand out a bit.”
