Julia Fox takes her love of fall to a whole new level.
That Unpolished gems Star, 32, known for her unconventional sense of style, hit the streets of New York to find the materials for her latest outfit: a bikini dress made from leaves that had fallen from the trees at her local park.
“THE DRESS FOR FALL 2022. Made from leaves and resin,” the model and actress captioned her video on Instagram, which showed the outfitting process from start to finish. “Thank you @emmafujiko for helping me bring my vision to life.”
In the video, Fox shared how she came up with the idea for the resin bikini dress.
“Hey guys. So I’m obsessed with leaves, and I go to the park every day, and I’ve seen the leaves change and I just got really inspired,” said Fox, who can climb a railing at the park to look at different leaves to collect. “And then I called my BFF Emma, who is a resin artist and resin master, and we cleaned the leaves and started mixing the resin together and we wanted to freeze these leaves in time.”
Together, Fox and her friend painted the leaves with resin “very quickly, before it oxidizes” and hung them on a makeshift poster board stand to dry until they were done drying.
“The leaves are so pretty. Leaves are so important. You just rake them up and blow them away, but it’s really tree food and insect food,” Fox added.
She later went deeper into the construction of the outfit, which included matching accessories.
“We made these little earrings. This is the mulberry leaf. It’s like the New York staple,” Fox said. “And here I am making a little breast cup. I simply used the hot glue gun to glue everything together. And that’s gonna go over my chest. I love it.”
The pieces were hooked together with a chain to create the bodice, which Fox hopes will be “more like body jewelry than clothing, you know what I mean?” The finished look featured the leaves hanging almost from her body hung, which was part of Fox’s goal of making it look like lives were falling “since it’s the dress for fall 2022”.
Ultimately, Fox said she was “kind of obsessed” with her creation.
“I don’t know if it’s actually wearable because my booty was full of it, but I’m obsessed with it. And it really was a labor of love. I’m kind of obsessed with it. Anything can be clothes, ladies! And now that we’re entering – we’re in dark times, we all have to learn to be smart,” she concluded with a chuckle.
The actress is known for taking a less traditional approach to fashion. Back in May, she was spotted at a Hollywood grocery store wearing an oversized denim blazer, matching knee-length boots and a bikini briefs set.
“My mood is just getting ready for the apocalypse,” she captioned the casual shots of them loading groceries into their car.
